About
Okay Haunting Records traces its roots back to the spring of 1995, when bandmates Ryan Lake and Daniel Sotten sought to open a place to host local acts. After a summer of searching, the two were able to land a foreclosed tavern with hopes of transforming the Ontario property into a performing venue and bar.
Due to circumstance, this plan was short-lived and eventually scrapped. In the dead of winter, Ryan and Daniel reassessed their options. It was then that the two foresaw hidden potential in leveraging the property to record unsigned acts. In 1996, Okay Haunting Records was born.
For Daniel and Ryan, the importance of operating a recording studio that encouraged flexibility for the artist took precedence before all else. Its approach was simple: provide a warm atmosphere along with warm hospitality. Some may think such a philosophy would be more appropriate for an inn than a recording studio. Lake and Sotten wouldn’t disagree with this; much like an inn, Okay Haunting’s intent was simple: providing a comfortable shelter for the traveling song idea to find fruition.
In 2009, Ryan and Daniel moved operations to the United States, settling in Owings Mills, Md. As a recording studio, Okay Haunting is currently under construction. But don’t worry – it now marks its 21st year with the launch of a digital counterpart: a catalog to document the works and expressions of a new roster; we hope that you’ll enjoy your stay with us.
