Night Hikes is an indie rock duo consisting of keyboardist and singer Matthew Farrell and guitarist and singer Olivia Godby. Initial recordings of 2015 gave way to the group’s debut “The Blue Hour”, as well as a slew of local shows.
Ambient and ethereal, “The Blue Hour” hosted a collection of songs that mixed the self-reliance of early DIY recording with a lyrical and sonic disposition towards the dramatic and incorporeal.
Today we bring you an alternate mix of “Great White”, the 6th song on the 10 track debut record. With a patience much like the shark’s own as it stalks its prey, the enchanting ode is a reflection on the nature of the shark: its home, its life, and its being.
Farrell’s stoic vocals join an orchestra’s swelling of chiming guitar notes and plucks before the song departs into an outro that showcases Godby’s own wonderings as they surface above the aquatic blackness.
